Chrysalis E-Design Process...

If you’ve found this post but not sure what E-Design is click here

Otherwise read on to find out how we would work together to create YOUR dream space.

What is the Chrysalis Design E-Design Process?

You will need to measure your space (or provide your house plans), take photographs, and answer a design questionnaire to get the job started. After your design has been finalised and you’ve received your E-Design Shopping List, you will then order your pieces ( in your own time, when you’re ready) and install them yourself or hire a handyman.

Sound like too much work? Don’t Stress!

After our initial Design Brainstorming Phone Call or Video Call, you will receive a “welcome packet” with all of the questions you need to answer (so I can get a clear picture of what you’re wanting to achieve for your space) and a guide to measuring and photographing the space we are transforming.

Once you receive your finalised design package, you will get a detailed shopping list - making the ordering process easy. You can order whatever you like, whenever you’re ready! You can wait for a sale, order in stages, or order all at once.

I include notes about where to place everything in the space and we can have a follow up call to discuss any questions you might have about putting it all together.

E-Design - what the heck is it??

E-Design, online interior design services, virtual interiors, you may have heard about it, but what exactly is it?

Like the name suggests, online interior design is done online. The entire process involves working remotely with a designer using email and video calls when you want and from wherever you are located. The entire process takes place virtually!

This means our communication is super flexible. I might send you a design concept at 11am while you’re at work (or on holiday!) and you aren’t available to reply with your feeback until you get home. No problem!

Chrysalis Design E-Design will give you a plan for your room that you can create at your own pace

Your local interior designers might only work Mon-Fri with no late night appointments available and you might have similar hours with no flexibility to take time off work. Add kids and their after-school activities, friends, trips to the gym and getting enough sleep (what’s that, right?), you may not have time to meet with a local designer face to face, even if you don’t have a traditional 9-5 job.

Virtual interior design makes it easy for the working Mum, (who we all know already has a full to-do list), to get professional, personalised design help without ever leaving their house, when you want and from wherever you are located. The entire process takes place using the power of the internet - isn’t technology fantastic! (most of the time)

Mega Design Board I never shared

Today while I was updating my gallery on my website I came across a moodboard that I entered into some design awards. I wasn’t chosen as a finalist which I was upset about for a few minutes but to be honest it was the process of creating this that lit my fire

Master Bedroom Design Board

Master Bedroom Design Board

The client brief I created for this Master Bedroom space was;

  • mid to high end products

  • Industrial Glam

  • Include touches of pink and navy

  • Layers - texture and history

I could 100% see myself living in this master bedroom and hubby would be just as comfortable in this space because it’s not overally girly or too glam. I love the history that items like the glass floor lamp from The Vitrine and the leather boxes I put in for the wardrobe space. The leather is repeated in the bench which is there to sit and put your shoes on.

The flooring itself is full of texture and depth, the mosaic tiles in the bathroom, the amazing bobbly rug under the bed and the linen bedding right through to the luscious velvet armchair…..all of it is just calling out to be touched. Can you imagine running your fingers over all of these products and finishes….heaven for the touch sense.

Interiors should appeal to at least 4 of the 5 senses, taste is obviously one that is hard to incorporate but if we can tick off the others then yay. I’ll do a blog post about this further in depth at some point too.

Anyway I hope you’ve enjoyed checking out this designboard!

No more Naked Walls

I’d like to address a serious issue that is occurring in our homes. It is creating a lack of belonging and a sense of restlessness. It some extreme cases it is causing discord between partners. It needs to be addressed and brought into the light so we can fight against it.

The issue is…..Naked Walls.

I know, I know, saying it out loud is a bit scary. But please know there is a quick and relatively painless remedy. It involves very little equipment but will make a BIG impact on the household and those naked walls will be gone leaving a sense of belonging and homeliness in it’s place.

If this afflication is taking place in your home take the following images and use them as inspiration to change your home and your life. It’s never too late. Put aside those negative thoughts about holes in walls and “resale” value and hang up some damn pictures! Family photos, art work, travel souvenirs! A simple shelf and a pot plant will make a massive difference (maybe not a wood shelf if you’re planning on inviting Jason Bonham around #blocknzreference).

Putting nails or holes in the walls can be nervewrecking and I know you probably don’t know whether you can commit to photos or art work but I’m telling you now once you choose that first piece to put up it gets easier.

Choose your favourite item ideally a large print or photo and start with that. Don’t hang it too high that’s about the only “rule” you should abide by. Once you’ve hung that first piece on the wall forget about the headache of spacing and planning. In the words of Nike…just do it!

It will evolve naturally trust me. Or if you don’t trust me check out Evie Kemp’s blog about it….her walls are epic.

Scroll on for inspiration from the simple but effective to the ultimate gallery wall effect.

E Design - Jack's Room

Jack’s Mum Sarah contacted me to help her create a new space for Jack who is turning 5 at the end of November and starting school in 2019. Having just moved into a new home which Sarah described as bland with Resene Alabaster walls and charcoal carpet she wanted to add colour to their home starting with Jack’s “big boy” room.

The brief for Jack’s room is as follows;

  • Add colour

  • Incorporate Jack’s love of drawing, animals (especially lions) and his dream to be a world explorer - he loves maps and atlases

  • Work with a budget of $1000 which much include a new desk for homework

So after Sarah sent through her measurements (using the Chrysalis Design mesasuring guide) I got to work…this is what the final design ended up like (the Chrysalis Design E-Design package cames with 2 concept options which are then fine tuned into the final design plan)
