Again!

The nights are getting cooler already so it's not a silly idea to start thinking about changing up our decor to take that into account.

These are my picks from The Warehouse's new homewares collection...

I will definitely be getting some of these items for my house, let me know what you choose for yours!

Who needs a Colour and Design Consultant?

Let me tell you who and why someone might need a colour consultant... then think of your friends...think of your coworkers...think of your parents.....and refer them to me! Ta muchly xx

photo 1.jpg
  • Your Co Worker.....Time poor young professional kick-ass single or couple who appreciate a beautifully decorated space but just don’t have the time to dedicate to planning the new home.
photo 3.jpg
  • Your Friend....who has a young family and has been dragging the kids all over town trying to look at products in bathroom showrooms on the weekends after the kids sports. Trying keep the young ones from swinging off the vanities or dealing with the constant requests for snacks or a toilet stop.

  • Your Friend, Sister, Brother, Cousin.....Those first home buyers who have moved from a two bedroom rental into their first family home and suddenly have so many extra rooms to paint and furnish and crappy kitchen with random 'design features' ...they don't know where to start! Especially with, most likely, a limited budget that needs to be spent wisely making the biggest impact.

  • Or YOU (or your parents, brother, sister, aunty....) might be planning your new home renovation/build with military like precision but you’re second guessing some of the (million and one) decisions you’re trying make for fixtures and finishes and would like a professional to run their eye over your ideas.

It's not a scary process and it's not just for 'rich people with big budgets'. Isn't it better to make a small investment in professional help to avoid making rush purchases and throwing it all together hoping it will work and then finding out it doesn't?

Trust me. Let me help you. You won't regret it.

Chrysalis Design Loves....Feature Walls

Ohhhhh shock horror...feature walls. The bane of some designers existence, the opportunity for Colour and creativity for others. I like feature walls, I'm not one of those, ahem, snobby designers that lament that "feature walls are soooooo done". Not at all.

Buckle up and let's "break the rules" by enjoying some stunning feature walls....

I absolutely love pressed tin and this application is gorgeous, the owners of this TriBeCa loft (oh to own one!) took the original panelling off the ceiling and used it on the wall in this bedroom.

White pressed tin adds fantastic texture and dimension to an all white scheme but dark painted pressed tin or metallic like this stunning wall is where spaces come to life...

Wallpaper and photo murals make outstanding features...

I think this look is fantastic in dining rooms...picture candlelight on the dining table reflected in the distressed patina of these mirrors...

Last but not least painted walls....probably the cheapest way to add interest to your room whether you tape off shapes and create a geometic feature...

...or simply using a dark or contrasting colour to highlight architectural details...

P.S If you want to add a feature wall or two, get in contact and we can arrange an Inspiration Consultation to see where it could be added and what we could use to add wow factor!

Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree...

I love this time of year when the Christmas issues of design and decor magazines are hitting the shelves and Pinterest is filling up with inspiration for Christmas decorating, baking and gift giving and wrapping.

The first weekend in December is when I like to go Christmas tree hunting and agonise over finding the perfect speciman...not too short, not too tall, good amount of bushiness and a decent top to it that needs to be strong enough to hold up the porcelain headed angel we inherited from my mother-in-law years ago. That chickadee is super top heavy and often ends up in various (drunken looking) positions if there isn't enough support up under her gown.

This year the kids are being taken to the SteelMill Christmas Party by their Great Uncle so hubby and I will be able to cruise the rows of pine trees in relative peace without having to worry about toilet stops or bored children. The idyllic thought of wandering around hunting down the perfect tree was shattered the first year eldest child was able to talk...since he was 3 he's only been interested in waving the saw and/or flag pole around precariously.  I'm looking forward to a peaceful tree hunt on Sunday!

I love a real tree but I love the thought of having a white or black fake tree that I could bling out in different colour themes each year. However the distinct lack of storage, funds and actual space to erect said trees is severely lacking in the current abode.

So this post is me living through the pages of Christmas themed magazines and browsing the 'net for homes decorated for Christmas with trees that make my heart sing.

First up Alex Fulton, NZ's Queen of Colour, always has bright and unique Christmas decor...

If you're into interiors and haven't checked out The Pink Room podcast you need to drop everything (after you finish reading this post) and head there straight away. I love their podcast, it's so great to finally have a decent interiors related podcast that is NZ based!

Eeeek! I'm feeling super inspired and although the kids like to 'ahem' help with decorating our tree hopefully I can find a way to satisfy us all....stay tuned!
